This is a nickname for the people of the town of Àkúrẹ́. The nickname is an ancient one that derives from the founder of Àkúrẹ́, Aṣọdẹbóyèdé, who was a powerful hunter. The leopard has become a symbol for Àkúrẹ́ and Àkúrẹ́ royalty, as well as other Èkìtì, Ìjẹ̀ṣà, and Oǹdó kingdoms. Here we can say that ẹkùn are the people and royalty of Àkúrẹ́, thus, "honor knows the people of Àkúrẹ́."
