The beads of the sorcerer.
Àwọn àlàyé mìíràn
Èṣùrù is a type of bead famously worn by Ghezo, a Dahomey king in the early to mid 1800s. The oṣó here, beyond "sorcerer" or "wizard" is an eminent person whom in the context of this name was the famous Ghezo of Dahomey, feared and revered due to his success in repeated slave raids and territorial acquisition wars, with his elite Amazon (female) warriors. The name arose from the defeat of Ghezo in one of his (in this instance), misadventure(s) into Egba territory.
