Extended Meaning

Ọwá or Ọgwá (in Ọ̀wọ̀) may refer to any of the various Èkìtì, Ìjẹ̀ṣà, and Oǹdó kings. The second meaning referring to the royal courtyard or palace is likely influence from the Ẹdó people, which ruled over these kingdoms for many years, and refer to their palace as ọgwá/ọguá. This term is also used in Olukumi and Itsekiri.
