Ṣàngó

Sísọ síta

Ìtumọọ Ṣàngó

Ṣàngó, the Yoruba deity of thunder, fire, and royalty.

Àwọn àlàyé mìíràn

Believed to be a term borrowed from the Nupe word Sòkó, the chief sky deity in Nupe religious beliefs. Primarily worshipped in Ọ̀yọ́ where Ṣàngó is believed to have ruled as the third Aláàfin. Ṣàngó's worship spread west and eastwards from Ọ̀yọ́ to other Yorùbá peoples, as well as other nearby ethnic groups like the Fọ̀n and Ẹdó people. Ṣàngó or Shàngó serves as a prefix in the names of people born to Ṣàngó worshipping families
