In this Èkìtì name, Ọ̀ṣà does not necessarily only refer to òrìṣà/ọ̀rìṣà (general name for all Yoruba deities), but also refers to the chief sky deity in Ekiti and Akure tradition, who is referred to as Ọ̀rìṣà or Ọ̀ṣà, equivalent to Obatala and later Olódùmarè (God). Compare this with Itsekiri names that have "Òrìtsẹ̀," like Òrìtsẹ̀shọlá, like where Òrìtsẹ̀ refers to the chief sky god (or "God"), or Ẹdó names that have Òsà.
