Meaning of Ọ̀rúnmìlà

Ọ̀rúnmìlà, the Yorùbá deity of wisdom, divination, and custodian of the Ifá oracle, whose name means, "Heaven knows the person that will succeed."

Extended Meaning

Ọ̀rúnmìlà is believed to be a primordial deity, one of the irúnmọlẹ̀, and witness to the Supreme being (Olódùmarè)'s creation and division of destinies. Ọ̀rúnmìlà is also believed to have descended to the Earth as a human, and as the first babaláwo, was the first person to use the Ifá oracle to divine, and the father of the Odù Ifá, the Ifá corpus. He is also referred to as Àgbọ̀nnìrègún. See Ifá
